A woman who went to spend some time at SkyCity Hamilton Casino received a strange message from a man a few days later. The message saying “”Good morning” – with a kiss emoji came from a number that was unknown to the woman. She later found out that it was a man who had apparently taken her number from the SkyCity Hamilton contact tracing form.

 

After the first message, the woman received another one a few weeks later, followed by another and then another. And eventually, she started getting phone calls which prompted her start inquiring. The woman asked and the response she got was that the man got her details from the SkyCity Hamilton casino tracing form. Strict Covid-19 Contact Tracing Rules at SkyCity Hamilton Casino

The man who identified himself as “Sonny” revealed that he found the woman’s number on the tracing form. Due to the Covid-19, casinos in New Zealand have to put in place contact tracing forms. This is to keep track of players who visit the facility. Players have to complete this form in order to gain access to the casino. The type of information required from the players includes phone number, date of birth, full names as well as the address. In addition, the casino will take a photo of the casino’s database.

SkyCity Acknowledges Incident

SkyCity has acknowledged that they are aware of this incident. The company says that a complaint was brought forward by the unnamed woman. “The complaint received strange messages and calls after giving her personal information when visiting SkyCity Hamilton in May.” This is according to a statement from the casino representative.

 

According to the casino, the alleged offender took a picture of the woman’s details while she was completing the form. The casino is still reviewing the surveillance footage of the incident. Additionally, they will work with the police to help with the investigation.

 

News surfaced that after a short investigation, the woman’s information could not be found on the system. However, the casino stated that they believed that whoever took the information was not an employee of SkyCity.
