Nevada Gaming Regulator to ban Steve Wynn
The Nevada Gaming Control Board is looking to impose a ban on casino mogul, Steve Wynn. This follows allegations of sexual harassment and assault against him. The regulator revealed that Wynn poses a threat to the public interest of the State of Nevada. The regulatory board highlighted that negative coverage around the casino mogul harmed Nevada’s reputation and the gaming industry in a complaint aimed at discovering whether Wynn’s company is still suitable for a state casino license.
The regulator filed a 23 page, five-count complaint. The document outlines that they seek to possibly revoke Wynn’s gaming license. The regulator also seeks to impose a fine on him, among other charges in the complaint.
Multiple Misconduct Allegations
Allegations against Wynn surfaced in 2018. He resigned from his company the same year. The billionaire has a net worth of $3.1 billion as estimated by Forbes. This came after dozens of employees accused him of sexual misconduct. Wynn has since denied the allegations and completely cut ties with the company.
This will not the first time the casino tycoon is fined. In February this year, gaming regulators in Nevada and Massachusetts fined Wynn’s company $20 million for not investigating claims from women who were allegedly sexually harassed in the workplace. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission took it a step further in May and fined Wynn Resorts $35 million and CEO Matt Maddox $500,000 on sexual assault charges.
Wynn is responsible for the development of a number of iconic properties in Las Vegas including the Treasure Island, the Bellagio and the Mirage. Due to non-transparency and concealed misconduct in the company, the gaming regulator has labeled Wynn as dishonest and not a person of good conduct. The regulator said due to Wynn’s repeated violations to Nevada’s regulations, he is bringing discredit to the gaming industry.
